Schools Yorkshire Tour 2019

The Schools’ Yorkshire Tour is a large scale cycle baton relay aimed at primary, secondary and SEND schools across Yorkshire. It has been developed by eleven Local Authorities and various partners. The aim of the Schools’ Yorkshire Tour is to encourage more young people to take up cycling, promoting cycling as a fun, every day method of transport. We would like to increase the number of pupils cycling to school.

By promoting an active lifestyle and improving the quality of air outside of schools across the region reducing levels of congestion on our roads.

The Schools’ Yorkshire Tour has been supported by YPO and HSBC.

Baton Relay

The ride element of the Schools Yorkshire Tour is aimed at increasing the number of children involved in cycling across the region. The event aims to have over 1000 children taking part in the cycle relay across Yorkshire in 2019.

The event will start outside York Minster on Monday 10th June 2019 to celebrate national Bike Week (8th – 14th June). From there it makes its way through eleven local authorities across the region, passing through Yorkshire’s outstanding areas of natural beauty and famous landmarks before its final destination of CAST in Doncaster.

The relay starts in York on the 10th June and passes through North Yorkshire, Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Wakefield, Barnsley, Sheffield and Rotherham before ultimately finishing in Doncaster in the Sir Nigel Gresley Square on the 2nd July 2019.

The baton will be handed back over to Doncaster Council and Peter Dodd (Welcome to Yorkshire) in front of hundreds of spectators. Schools who have taken part in the ride will be invited to the event to welcome home the baton as it completes its journey across the county.
